Thanks for joining us!

Taking that first step on the homeschooling journey can be exhilarating, terrifying, and everything in between.  The Homeschool Action Network of Delaware is a group of homeschooling parents who are further along on the journey and want to help along those just starting out and support those who are already here.

We hope that as you explore this site you will find answers to your questions, support when you need it, and great ideas to spark excitement and fun in your homeschool adventure.

  1. I am starting homeschooling for both my sons. Since I have been looking at several sites for the curriculum that is best for him I was told that I do not have to go by the common core now that they are not in a public school. I was wondering if it is true cause my son has a reading issue, and it affects his classwork? I am working with him to help him understand what he is reading. I really would like to make a curriculum that helps him and not force him to stress out from not understanding. He has adhd, ocd, odd and bipolar. That is why I started homeschooling them both. Is there any programs that helps with issues like his around the area?

    1. You are correct; you are not required to follow the Common Core or other standards, but to provide a substantially equivalent education. I’d encourage you to join the Facebook communities Homeschool Delaware or Delaware Secular Homeschoolers to tap into ideas from a large community of other homeschool parents. There are also community resources available such as Huntington Learning Center and Orton-Gillingham that you might wish to check out.
